Chi Min
About This Spot
Stepping into Chi Min feels like crossing an inviting threshold into one of Paramaribo’s enduring neighborhood favorites. Tucked away on Cornelis Jongbaw Street, this Chinese restaurant carries a calm yet bustling energy that quietly honors its place in the city’s diverse culinary tapestry. There’s a comforting rhythm to the service upstairs in the dining area—unhurried yet attentive—that mirrors the steady pulse of local life around it.
The space itself is unpretentious, offering a familiar, easygoing ambiance where both familiar faces and curious newcomers find room to settle in. It’s the kind of place where the pace allows you to slow down, whether you’re enjoying a warm bowl of broth or sharing plates meant for conversation and savoring.
At Chi Min, the experience is in the flavors that bridge Asia’s culinary traditions with Suriname’s vibrant spirit. The kitchen’s offerings hint at a journey through robust, layered tastes—savory roast chicken mingling with the layered textures of mixed meats and noodles, the subtle kick of spiced seafood, or the comforting brightness of hot and sour broths. Each dish feels thoughtfully prepared to bring a touch of homey satisfaction without fuss, evoking familiar warmth with an added surprise now and then.
The atmosphere reflects a balance between a reliable go-to spot and a casual dining destination, where meals arrive with steady flow, and the shared human elements—interactions with servers, the communal buzz from other diners—shape the overall experience. It’s a place where a pause for Chinese Thai tea after the meal feels like a natural, lingering finish rather than a hurried affair.
While it quietly embraces its role as a local staple, Chi Min also carries a practical charm that invites both last-minute takeaways and more settled visits. The location makes it an easy option for those exploring the heart of Paramaribo, especially near notable hotels. There’s a grounded honesty here—both in how the food is served and the rhythms of the space—that leaves you feeling connected to the city’s everyday stories.

One of the last good restaurants in Surinam. The food is great, delivered fast and really delicious.

You can consider Chi Min as centrally located in Paramaribo, not far from Marriott Hotel and Hotel chain Torarica here in Suriname. Food selection on their Menu is extensive, as you will get a taste of Asia in Suriname. The dishes are delicious and wont break the bank.

We enjoyed a nice meal here on my last evening of my stay in Paramaribo. Our server was very nice and took care of us. Food was delicious. Good place to dine in or also carry out. Look forward to next time to visit.

Food there take lot of time, i had too order one after each other the last one was ready , still waiting 15min for the first order. was a lot of food for the price. The taste could be better . I enjoy the tjao mien and the chinese kaisoi in garlic. I though the fries for the chicken was fresh potato fries.

Has takeaway downstairs and restaurant upstairs. The food was good (spicy chicken). Watch out when prices are not listed though, a soda can that the waitress told me is around 30 was 60. On top there was 12% tax and mandatory 10% tip. In my case it still ended up being cheap but with a big order with some more drinks it can probably get more expensive than one is expecting.
